I would like to start with two quite new aspects of my work: lectures and conceptual pieces. Years ago I did a piece for a light installation by artists Allora & Calzadilla, presented by the Renaissance Society in Chicago and I was happy to be asked for making a piece for a water and light installation by Petra Bachmeier and Sean Gallero in Chicago this year. The piece was based on chemical measurements of the Chicago River and the river Elbe (in Hamburg), which I transformed into durations. I recorded a tape with four tracks, one track for each of the chemicals. The chemical-like Nitrate, Phosphate or Oxygene – were represented by four different materials like radio and marble sounds. The piece is called "Traces – For trumpet, tape, radio, speaker and objects" and has two contrasting aspects: the improvised trumpet part and the conceptual tape part, which are overlaying each other. I played the piece during four evenings in an alley downtown Chicago to the light installation, which was based on the same measurements and without the installation at the Renaissance Society.

The other new aspect are lectures and workshops, which started with the one I did last year at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago and now continued with lectures and workshops at the Musikhochschule in Basel at Fred Frith’s class and at Area Sismica in Forli, Italy. Giving lectures makes you look at your work from a distance, it forces you to clarify and formulate your ideas about music. It also made me think about how I work instead only concentrating on the subject of my work. Since I have not played in London for over ten years I was very delighted to be invited for a solo at Hideous Porta in London. I also played a duo with Dimitra Lazaridou-Chatzigoga at Café Oto on that occasion.

My tour to the US in autumn started with the solo performances in Chicago and went on with some concerts in San Francisco where I played with Grosse Abfahrt (Tom Djll, Tim Perkis, Kyle Bruckmann, Jacob Felix Heule amongst others) and a gig with Bill Hsu, who I have toured with over the years. He works with electronics and video animation, another visual aspect on this tour.

Two CDs have been released this year: Live at Teni Zvuka, solo and trio with Ilia Belorukov and Andrej Popovsky, recorded at Teni Zvuka festival in St. Petersburg and released on 1000füssler. The other one is Araripepipra with Gregory Büttner was released on Hideous Replica, a London based label run by one of the organisers of my London gig. With Gregory I also played a very nice concert in Prague, together with the Prague Improvisation Orchestra. The last concerts of this year were two concerts in Munich and Zoglau with Christoph Schiller, who plays spinet with objects and preparations, another longtime collaboration.

I am looking forward to the release of the CD Stereo Trumpet, with Leonel Kaplan on Relative Pitch Records in January.
